DBI issues $60M permit for 2 Stockton St rebuild and 3-story vertical addition

The Department of Building Inspection issued a $60 million alteration permit on February 24 for 2 Stockton Street, a four-story retail building at the corner of Market Street. The permit covers replacement of all existing structural elements and a three-story vertical addition of office space.

The reissued building will rise to seven stories under construction type 1B, replacing the existing type-3 frame. Plans include new Market and Stockton street facades at levels one through four and a new streetscape. The retail use of the building is preserved.

The project was filed in August 2023 and approved on December 9, 2025; the permit was issued as a site permit. The site is in the Financial District / South Beach neighborhood, in Supervisor District 3.
