$5.6M permit at 1035 Van Ness adds 2 affordable units, repairs 13 damaged

The Department of Building Inspection issued a $5.6 million change-of-use permit on February 18 for 1035 Van Ness Avenue in the Western Addition, converting a 122-unit miscellaneous group-residence building to a 124-unit apartment building. The project is described in the permit as 100% affordable.

Per the permit description, 106 existing units will receive targeted alteration; 13 damaged units will be repaired to address Notice of Violation #201786481; demising walls will be restored to 12 units; and ADA upgrades will add mobility and communication-accessible units along with two accessible parking spaces. The work is interior only. The 9-story height and type-1 construction are unchanged.

The building is in the Western Addition neighborhood, in Supervisor District 2.
